In Galicia, bridges are much more than simple connecting structures. They are fundamental elements that form part of our landscape, connecting places, stories and people. From the most modern and contemporary bridges to the historic stone bridges, each one of them is a reflection of the evolution of Galician architecture and its integration with the environment.

In this second blog post, I would like to invite you to discover the beauty and uniqueness of Galician bridges, which have become key pieces of our architectural, cultural and landscape heritage. And I want to do it through a small selection of photographs that I have been taking for several years, in different trips and journeys throughout our geography.

Modern bridges: Designs that stand out

Contemporary bridges stand out for their design, which blends in with the natural and urban landscape. Their lines and materials offer a blend of functionality and beauty, becoming protagonists of urban and natural skylines.

Railway bridges: The passage of time and history

Railway bridges are witnesses of times gone by, but also of stories that are still being written. These imposing structures, mostly made of metal and concrete, cross rivers and valleys and connect different parts of the Galician territory. Their shapes and size create a sense of strength and durability, something that makes them unmistakable in our landscape.

Suspension bridges: Lightness and harmony with nature

Suspension bridges, suspended over rivers, are examples of how architecture can be combined with the natural environment in a light and fluid way. These bridges invite you to cross slowly and enjoy the surrounding landscape. Two examples of this typology are the suspension bridge O Xirimbao, over the river Ulla between the municipalities of Teo and A Estrada and the suspension bridge Cal Grande, over the river Eume and within the beautiful Fragas do Eume.

Historic bridges: Stone as a symbol of resistance

Galicia's stone bridges are true symbols of resistance and tradition. Erected centuries ago, these structures were the connecting point for many villages and roads. Today, they are still part of our heritage, perfectly integrated with the environment, and in the most beautiful corners of our land.

Galicia's bridges are much more than simple infrastructures. Each one of them has a history and a context of its own. Through these photographs, I wish to convey that unique connection between architecture and landscape, and how the beauty of each bridge, big or small, is part of our identity.
